Gender-based violence continues to affect many families in Mizoram, with cases rising sharply in recent years. To address this, Mission Foundation Movement is launching a two-year program in Tlangnuam and Darlawn Blocks with support from Aparajita and the J-PAL South Asia Team.
The initiative brings schools, churches, community groups, and frontline workers together to strengthen awareness, early response, and survivor support. Students will take part in awareness sessions, self-defense training, and digital safety guidance. Churches and youth groups will host conversations that encourage healthy relationships and shared responsibility within the community. MHIP, YMA, councils, and partner groups will help improve timely support and referral channels.
Survivors will have access to confidential counselling and skill training designed to open new income pathways and reduce dependence. Across two years, the program aims to reach about 5,000 people, encouraging safer homes and stronger protections for women and children in both RD blocks.
With the support of Aparajita and J-PAL South Asia, Mission Foundation Movement continues its effort to strengthen family well-being and promote safer communities across Mizoram.
Mrs. Lalrinpuii, Minister of Social Welfare, Women and Child Development Department launched the project at her office Chamber on 6th November, 2025. The Minister, highlighting the alarming rise in violence against women in Mizoram, stated that during 2022–2023, a total of 3,094 cases were reported through Women Helpline, which has now risen sharply to 12,750 cases as of February 2025. She emphasised that addressing GBV is of utmost importance, as empowering women strengthens families and, in turn, uplifts entire communities. She further noted that the GBV Solve Project will not only tackle issues surrounding gender-based violence but will also include extensive awareness and education programmes for both boys and girls, along with skill training initiatives to help women gain economic independence.
Out of 470 project proposals received across India, six organisations were selected to implement the GBV Solve Project — one of which is Mission Foundation Movement (MFM). In Mizoram, MFM will carry out the project in collaboration with the Women and Child Development Department, focusing on awareness, community engagement, and support services for survivors of gender-based violence in Aizawl District.
