Distribution of supplies to Myanmar Refugees at Sihhmui

News  |  April 14, 2023

Date: 14th April, 2023 (Friday)

Location: Sihhmui Refugee camp (20 kms west of Aizawl)

MFM in Collaboration with Nations Carey’s Patch visited Sihhmui Refugee Camp and distributed supplies.

Currently there are 130 refugees at the camp and in Sihhmui area in general. There are 45 children and 15 people above 60 years of age. According to Pu Boithang (Camp leader), there are no illness in the camp at the time of the visit.

The main concern for the refugees is food and water storage units. The neighbouring village council has provided them water but there are not enough water storage facilities. ZORO (Zo Re-Unification Organization had gave them some rice and other food items a few weeks ago but apart from this they have not recieved any other relief this year. Summer has been harsh for them as the Sihhmui area is very dry and hot compared to other parts of Mizoram.

Most of the youths were out building new huts along the Sihhmui approach road. The camp leader told us that refugees from neighbouring villages were going to relocate to Sihhmui. We counted at least 7-8 new huts that were under construction.

MFM Director gave a short speech and prayed for them at the camp community hall. The camp leader had words of thanks to MFM and Nations Carey’s Patch. MFM's Relief Project for Myanmar Refugees is planning to cover more refugees all over Mizoram.
